blackburn | sonney2k: working on summary | 13:57 |
blackburn | wow we are all green | 14:09 |
wiking | :D | 14:11 |
blackburn | hmm rumours that putin has got brain attack | 14:12 |
blackburn | would be crazy | 14:12 |
wiking | you mean brain seazure? | 14:12 |
wiking | or how to u spell it | 14:13 |
wiking | a stroke :) | 14:13 |
blackburn | no idea how to speak it in english | 14:13 |
blackburn | blood damage | 14:13 |
wiking | ::> | 14:13 |
blackburn | of brain | 14:13 |
wiking | stroke | 14:13 |
blackburn | okay I will try to remember :) | 14:13 |
wiking | so will it be like with khrushchev? that they will deny that he is dead weeks after he actual death? :) | 14:15 |
blackburn | I didn't know they denied that | 14:16 |
wiking | i think it was him who's death they try to hide for a while | 14:16 |
blackburn | I bet putin will live more than I lol | 14:16 |
wiking | but maybe it was another prominent soviet leader :P | 14:16 |
blackburn | stalin's death was reported on next day | 14:17 |
blackburn | brezhnev too IIRC | 14:17 |
blackburn | andropov, chernenko - no idea | 14:17 |
blackburn | andropov is a fucking asshole good he got only 1 years to lead the country | 14:17 |
blackburn | one year I mean :D | 14:17 |
blackburn | or a little more | 14:17 |
wiking | :> | 14:18 |
blackburn | wiking: funny fact - when it was andropov one could be asked 'why are you on street now?' | 14:18 |
wiking | mmmm | 14:18 |
wiking | lsvm.train() | 14:18 |
wiking | RuntimeError: maximum recursion depth exceeded while calling a Python object | 14:18 |
wiking | why o why | 14:18 |
blackburn | i.e. if you just walk around you could be arrested :D | 14:19 |
blackburn | wiking: you forgot to declare some virtual method | 14:19 |
blackburn | you *have to* redeclare *all* virtual upper hierarchy-wise methods | 14:19 |
wiking | i think i did :) | 14:20 |
wiking | oh wait | 14:21 |
wiking | maaaaybe one left out | 14:21 |
wiking | ok found it :) | 14:22 |
wiking | oh shit :) | 14:22 |
blackburn | I have no consistent excuse for swig but we've got to declare it all again | 14:23 |
wiking | mmm | 14:29 |
wiking | so even if i want to base class to handle that | 14:29 |
wiking | i have to define it | 14:29 |
wiking | actually can i doo that? :))) | 14:30 |
blackburn | yes, why not? | 14:32 |
wiking | well i've tried | 14:33 |
wiking | LatentModel.get_num_vectors() | 14:33 |
wiking | def get_num_vectors(self): | 14:33 |
wiking | return LatentModel.get_num_vectors(self) | 14:33 |
wiking | doesn'twork | 14:33 |
blackburn | !!!!!!!!!!!!! | 14:33 |
blackburn | :D | 14:33 |
blackburn | no! | 14:33 |
wiking | then? | 14:33 |
blackburn | you have to declare it in directorlatentmodel | 14:33 |
wiking | but if i declare it | 14:34 |
blackburn | virtual blablba() { BaseClass::blablba() } | 14:34 |
wiking | ah | 14:34 |
wiking | i see | 14:34 |
blackburn | see directoranything for example | 14:34 |
blackburn | like risk or kernel | 14:34 |
wiking | and in my own implementation | 14:38 |
wiking | i still have to define after this in python | 14:38 |
wiking | or that is handled? | 14:38 |
wiking | i mean in my case the get_num_vectors | 14:38 |
blackburn | well you don't have to | 14:40 |
wiking | okey | 14:40 |
wiking | let's see now | 14:40 |
blackburn | wiking: in python you only redefine what you want | 14:40 |
wiking | segfault | 14:40 |
blackburn | but in directorclass you define everything you could redefine | 14:40 |
blackburn | alias hulk=git; hulk push --force | 14:41 |
blackburn | wiking: gdb | 14:42 |
wiking | :>> | 14:42 |
wiking | hul | 14:42 |
wiking | k | 14:42 |
wiking | :D | 14:42 |
blackburn | alias hulk=gdb this time | 14:43 |
wiking | doh | 14:46 |
wiking | i dont get a reference on the base class' protected members? | 14:46 |
wiking | like self.m_labels | 14:47 |
wiking | ? | 14:47 |
wiking | blackburn: :D | 14:51 |
wiking | ping ping | 14:52 |
@sonney2k | wiking, which country are you in ? | 14:54 |
wiking | sonney2k: .be | 14:55 |
@sonney2k | n4nd0, you are in sweden right? | 14:55 |
wiking | yes he is | 14:55 |
@sonney2k | wiking, Belgium? | 14:55 |
wiking | sonney2k: yes | 14:55 |
@sonney2k | wiking, google will cry | 14:55 |
wiking | why? :) | 14:55 |
@sonney2k | germany/uk/belgium/sweden/russia | 14:55 |
@sonney2k | plane tickets are not exactly cheap for any of these countries | 14:56 |
@sonney2k | I guess all around 800 EUR | 14:56 |

wiking | i've checked for me | 14:57 |
wiking | it was 570 | 14:57 |
wiking | for a return | 14:57 |
@sonney2k | wiking, to SFO ??? | 14:57 |
wiking | ueps | 14:57 |
@sonney2k | sure? | 14:57 |
wiking | yeps | 14:57 |
wiking | yep | 14:57 |
wiking | via philly | 14:57 |
wiking | with us airways | 14:57 |
wiking | but yeah that'll change i think | 14:57 |
@sonney2k | it was 870 for me | 14:58 |
wiking | now it's still available | 14:58 |
@sonney2k | and that was really about the cheapest | 14:58 |
wiking | sonney2k: heheh you dont have that many expats from the states like brussels :P | 14:58 |
wiking | nato hq is in brussels :P | 14:58 |
blackburn | wiking: ???? | 14:59 |
blackburn | wiking: back | 14:59 |
@sonney2k | € 646,54 w/ us-airways but a 2 stop flight | 15:00 |
blackburn | sonney2k: don't you think they have a lot of money? :D | 15:01 |
wiking | blackburn: see my question | 15:01 |
blackburn | wiking: no idea about members | 15:01 |
blackburn | rather do getter | 15:01 |
@sonney2k | € 618,63 with delta/ air france in december | 15:02 |
@sonney2k | blackburn, no | 15:02 |
@sonney2k | travel budget is low | 15:02 |
@sonney2k | blackburn, and notice that GSoC costs them ~40 million US$ | 15:02 |
blackburn | sonney2k: I could pay by myself in the end anyway - but I am not really going to get into schedule | 15:03 |
blackburn | waiting for a foreign passport now | 15:03 |
blackburn | they accepted my order - all I have is to wait | 15:03 |
wiking | sonney2k: but that 40mil usd is kind of wasted money that is being reimbursed from their tax ;) | 15:05 |
wiking | so they rather pay that for actual code than for the IRS | 15:05 |
wiking | :P | 15:05 |
blackburn | sonney2k: I am not sure what you meant, is 40M$ a big sum for google? | 15:07 |
blackburn | they have such money and much beyond I believe :) | 15:08 |
@sonney2k | wiking, then why are other companies not doing that? | 15:08 |
wiking | blackburn: yeah knowing that their last revanue after taxation was around 11 BIL usd :) | 15:08 |
wiking | sonney2k: because their give a fuck? :) | 15:08 |
blackburn | well bosses of other companies are wooden assholes | 15:08 |
blackburn | they can't believe such things can improve anything and they do not want to improve anything | 15:09 |
@sonney2k | blackburn, just divide the profit they make per year by the number of days - then you know how many days worth of their profit 40M are | 15:09 |
@sonney2k | wiking, blackburn yeah but they all depend on OSS too | 15:10 |
wiking | mmm | 15:10 |
wiking | 30136986.3014 | 15:10 |
wiking | hehehe | 15:10 |
wiking | not even a day :P | 15:10 |
@sonney2k | wiking, you made a mistake :D | 15:10 |
wiking | ah yeah | 15:11 |
wiking | a day and 1/3 ;P | 15:11 |

wiking | this year we had 366 | 15:11 |
wiking | :> | 15:11 |
wiking | but nobody works on the weekend there :DD | 15:11 |
wiking | sonney2k: do you know anything about having access on the base class' attributes in python from the derived class? | 15:12 |
wiking | currently it's not possible :) | 15:12 |
wiking | (yes they are protected in c++) | 15:12 |
@sonney2k | wiking, blackburn, n4nd0, heiko I will send you some minimal draft for the doc sprint - please improve | 15:13 |

ptizoom | many many | 19:27 |
blackburn | ptizoom: welcome to debugland :D | 19:27 |

blackburn | only in perl right? | 19:31 |
ptizoom | Idonotknow... | 19:31 |
ptizoom | since on branch parted from "2012-09-20 21:12:56" I managed to kill them all. | 19:32 |
ptizoom | but... now I rebased and used sonney2k .i ... as is... | 19:32 |
ptizoom | and here they come back again...which means ... | 19:33 |
ptizoom | here is the list of culprits: ../data/kernel/LinearByte_RAWBYTE_60.m , ../data/kernel/Linear_fnord.m , ../data/kernel/LinearString_DNA_60.m , ../data/kernel/SparseLinear_fnord.m , | 19:35 |
blackburn | so .m files fail? | 19:38 |
ptizoom | also to gdb , do not forget someting like this: LD_LIBRARY_PATH="/usr/src/shogun/src/interfaces/perl_modular:/usr/src/shogun/src/shogun" gdb | 19:38 |
ptizoom | yes with the perl | 19:38 |
ptizoom | but does it with also fail with others packages? | 19:39 |
blackburn | how can that depend on perl if it is .m | 19:45 |

blackburn | Projects only : Please outline in brief detail how the nominated project would benefit from attending the 2012 GSoC Doc Camp. | 22:17 |
blackburn | https://github.com/shogun-toolbox/shogun-tutorial | 22:17 |
blackburn | we have nothing in there | 22:17 |
heiko | blackburn, we should quickly write that I did not see it | 22:18 |
heiko | well in the tutorial there is not much, but it is a start and shows that we already thought about things | 22:18 |
blackburn | no, i mean the link is not the answer | 22:19 |
wiking | damn i've missed that | 22:19 |
blackburn | okay lets come up with something right now | 22:19 |
heiko | what? | 22:19 |
blackburn | heiko: Please outline in brief detail how the nominated project would benefit from attending the 2012 GSoC Doc Camp. | 22:19 |
heiko | aaah I see | 22:19 |
@sonney2k | hi heiko | 22:20 |
heiko | sonney2k, hi | 22:20 |
@sonney2k | hi gsomix long time no see... | 22:20 |
heiko | well that is kind of included in the other longer text | 22:20 |
wiking | gsomix: ! | 22:20 |
heiko | sonney2k, blackburn, we should just split it a bit | 22:20 |
@sonney2k | heiko, what I intend to write there is that we have a huge code base | 22:20 |
blackburn | heiko: yeah may be | 22:20 |
@sonney2k | but accessibility to users is hard (even though we have a large doxygen reference documntations and a minimal tutorial) | 22:21 |
@sonney2k | so this year gsoc students decided to have a doc sprint | 22:22 |
@sonney2k | without even knowing about gsoc doc-sprint they started creating a tutorial | 22:22 |
blackburn | sonney2k: good point | 22:22 |
heiko | sonney2k, yes good! | 22:23 |
@sonney2k | that currently covers three classes of algorithms, multitask, multiclass and heikos stuff :D | 22:23 |
gsomix | sonney2k: sorry for that, busy time :) | 22:24 |
@sonney2k | These students were all successful participants of last years (or this years) google summer of code and have become core contributors to shoguns code base | 22:24 |
@sonney2k | gsomix, I still count on you wrt model selection typemaps :D | 22:25 |
heiko | sonney2k, maybe we could also add some part about non-ML related stuff in shogun. Such as a description of the interfaces and installation/configure-switches etc | 22:25 |
@sonney2k | ptizoom, if you have time later this evening we can chat | 22:25 |
@sonney2k | heiko, yes please do | 22:25 |
heiko | I meant in the goals for the doc summit | 22:25 |
@sonney2k | let me write sth for the first question in the meantime | 22:26 |
heiko | sonney2k, gotta go in 10 mins, but will write a short paragraph about that | 22:26 |
wiking | In the past we've planned to have a mini-conf amongs the core developers in order to write a thorough tutorial for users as Shogun's code-base is very huge (n classes etc.) and as a new-comer it could be quite hard to get a grip on it's structure/usage. There are a lot of state-of-art machine learning algorithms implemented in Shogun, hence sometimes it could be hard for a user to choose the right one for his needs. Having a good tutorial would help the | 22:27 |
wiking | how's that sound? | 22:27 |
wiking | sonney2k heiko blackburn ^ | 22:27 |
heiko | I like it, sonney2k, should include it in the text hes currently writing | 22:28 |
wiking | just finish it with something nice instead of blablabla :P | 22:28 |
blackburn | wiking: sounds nice | 22:29 |
gsomix | sonney2k: I still count so | 22:31 |
heiko | sonney2k, Shogun offers interfaces to quite a number of different programming languages and external libraries. This results in a non-trivial compile and installation process. In the book, we want to include a howto on getting shogun to run in different contexts in terms of interfaces, OS, and external libraries. This would make it much easier for first time users to grips with shogun. | 22:31 |
heiko | sonney2k, blackburn, wiking, gotta go now, bye bye lets hope we got accepted :) | 22:32 |
wiking | heiko: cyaz | 22:34 |
ptizoom | sonney2k:i am all hears | 22:35 |

@sonney2k | wiking, blackburn I think the only benefit to shogun to have the doc sprint is a nice tutorial that in turn would increase its popularity and user base (not only domain experts)? | 22:58 |
@sonney2k | Maybe because we would all meet also increase the motivation amongs us | 22:58 |
blackburn | sonney2k: right | 23:16 |
@sonney2k | maybe I could write sth like shogun might become the de-facto standard toolbox in ML | 23:20 |
blackburn | sonney2k: ha! | 23:21 |
blackburn | :) | 23:21 |
blackburn | chris should have started his talk already | 23:21 |
@sonney2k | blackburn, wiking please read again | 23:23 |

@sonney2k | ptizoom, alright now whats going on? | 23:37 |
@sonney2k | ptizoom, you said you have lots of double free issues etc? | 23:37 |
@sonney2k | do these go away if you compile with --disable-reference-counting ? | 23:38 |
